This new feature allows users to send and receive PDF files over the chat without leaving the app. Previously, we could share images, videos & audio files with WhatsApp contacts, and now the new update includes PDF file share support. However, there is still no option that can be used to share popular document files such as Doc "Word document", Xls "Excel spreadsheets", and Ppt "PowerPoint". In this guide, we are going to show you a working solution that enables you to send & receive any documents file on WhatsApp messenger.

You don’t have to be a tech wizard to be able to manually activate document sharing feature with WhatsApp. The method below doesn’t require any third-party software, cloud service or app to facilitate file sharing with contacts on the instant messenger application.

Now that you have ensured that Android device is properly rooted and ready for this hack, let us take a moment and thanks XDA member @yossijoe who came up with this trick of sharing any document file with WhatsApp.

Also, make sure that you have got the latest WhatsApp version installed on your device, or WhatsApp v2.12.493 or later. Once all the requirements have been fulfilled, you can follow the steps below to set your WhatsApp to send any document file with WhatsApp on Android.

1. Update WhatsApp to the latest version.
2. Download latest version of the ES File Explorer and install in your device.
3. Now, launch the ES File Explorer, go to Device > Fast Access, & Enable Root Explorer option.
4. Next, head over to data/data/com.WhatsApp/shared_prefs/com.WhatsApp_preferences.xml and open com.WhatsApp_preferences.xml using ES Note Editor.
5. Here, you will see the following string:

Now, to add support for sharing other document types, simply add the following types next to PDF, such as:

<string name=documents”>pdf,doc,docx,txt,pptx,xls</string>

Once done, save the file after making the above changes to the WhatsApp and force close the app.
