Here's how to root Galaxy S5 & Install TWRP Recovery on Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow. It's been over two years since the launch of Galaxy Note 5, we've since seen two two flagship devices from Samsung namely Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S7, but that doesn't mean that users have ditched the device in favor of new ones. Galaxy S5 is being used by millions around the world. And you can enjoy latest Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware along with its latest features on Galaxy Note 5 as well. You can root Galaxy S5 & install TWRP recovery Galaxy S5 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

Rooting Samsung Galaxy S5 & installing TWRP custom recovery is simple. You will need to have Odin flashing tool installed on PC to flash CF Auto Root and the TWRP .img file. See instructions below for it.

How to Root & Install TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow:

Before starting the root process, check Samsung Galaxy S5 types that are supported by this root process. All Samsung Galaxy S5 devices with Snapdragon processor are supported by this method below. But to make sure that your device is supported, see the list below & download CF Auto Root drivers for your device from the links next to the device name:

Before You Start:
Make sure that you have Odin & TWRP installed on PC.
Download latest version from links below:
  • Odin v3.10.7 > Download <
  • TWRP Custom Recovery > Download <
Make sure your mobile has minimum 70% charged. This is highly custom process, follow instructions carefully & at your own risk as we'll not be responsible for any damage to your device.

Root Samsung Galaxy S5 Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow:
  1. Download Odin from the above link. Extract .zip file and install it on PC.
  2. Download CF Auto Root for your device model from the link above and extract it on PC to get tar.md5 file.
  3. Turn off the phone & long-press and hold Power + Home + Volume Down simultaneously to reboot the device in download mode.
  4. Connect your device with PC via USB cable and open Odin tool. To see if the device is connected, there should be a 'green light' on Odin main menu indicating successful connection.
  5. On Odin, click AP button and go to the location where you saved extracted tar.md5 file on PC & paste it in AP box.

  6. Click the Start button & wait for the root process to finish after which device will reboot automatically.
  7. All Done. Your device has been rooted. :) Now you have gained root access to Galaxy S5. Now move ahead to install TWRP custom recovery.

Install TWRP Custom Recovery on Samsung Galaxy S5:

  1. Repeat the above process. Enter the download mode on your device & connect it with PC with Odin tool opened.
  2. On Odin, click AP button and this time copy & paste TWRP image img.tar file in the box.
  3. Now hit the start button on Odin and wait for it to finish installing TWRP.
